Grab 220 grit random orbital sander. Don't use the soft interface pads on the sander to avoid rounding over the beveled sides.
Sand both the front and back of the shelves. Remove any stickers and sand off sticker residue.
Sand the end grain edges of the board. Avoid too much sanding on the beveled portions.
